You are invited …
The City of Cape Town, SANBI and the Western Cape Education
Department's Khanya Project invite high school learners who
enjoy digital design to create the look and feel of the e-Kapa
Youth, GIS & Urban Nature Project website.
What is this project about?
The e-Kapa Youth, GIS & Urban Nature Project gives
senior high school learners the opportunity to use GPS (Global
Positioning Systems) and GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
technology while helping the City of Cape Town to monitor and
conserve nature.
The project aims to provide high school classes with GIS
field trips to the nature reserves, and ideas for GIS projects
that individuals and small groups of learners can undertake.
We are developing this project during 2007 and 2008, and
this entails:
- equipping the nature reserves with GPS and GIS
technology
- designing projects that schools can assist with
- testing project ideas with teachers and learners
- setting up a website where schools can share and analyse
their data.
Who may enter?
Individual Grade 9-12 learners from Cape Town schools
What must we design?
- The layout of the front page of the e-Kapa Youth, GIS
