The BGIS website consists of two parts - pages of textual information and online maps.

On opening the BGIS website you can choose one of four buttons. These buttons are repeated on all the text pages of the website.

The four buttons will take you to different sections of the website.

Here you can find a map and open it directly. See Choosing a map for more details.

 

Here you can find information on projects included on the BGIS website. The projects section is described in greater detail below.

 

Here you can find information and links to the services provided on the BGIS website. These services include;
  • A municipal biodiversity planning index
  • A species mapping tool
  • A land use decision support tool· Training manuals
  • A glossary of terms
  • Useful inks

 

Here you can find out more about BGIS and its staff.

 

The Projects section

When you click on the  button you are presented with a list of South Africa's provinces. Clicking on a province will reveal the project information available for that province in chronological order of the publication.

Clicking on a project in the menu will open the project page. The project page contains background information about the project, links to reports, contact information and a list of maps.

 

Clicking on one of the maps listed opens the maps page. This page contains background information about the map, a link to view the online map - "view this map", links to the metadata, ESRI shape files for download and an image of the map when viewed online.
