This map includes 435 zonal and azonal vegetation types mapped at a working scale of 1:250 000 and sometimes higher resolution. The map is the result of a collaborative project involving about 60 individual contributors from a number of organizations, over a considerable period. It was compiled in order to provide floristically based vegetation units of South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland at a greater level of detail than had been available before.
