about the website
The BGIS website was developed in conjunction with the University of the Western Cape’s Department of Biodiversity and Conservation Biology and the International Ocean Institute – Southern Africa (IOI-SA).
The aim of the website is to disseminate all available spatial biodiversity planning information thereby facilitating its use in informed land-use planning and decision-making.
The BGIS website does not only make available spatial data, but rather looks to publish complete project packages that would include reports, maps, posters and other related information.
The interactive online mapping component of the website allows users to perform basic map querying and analysis. In addition to this, users can also text markups to their maps, create or load their own shapefiles, import lat-long (X,Y) point localities, save and email map sessions over a secure link and create visually aesthetic maps.
